A Branding Workflow Analysis. Building a Brand from Concept to Experiment
24 Mar 2024
Synopsis
Building on an extensive account of how I created an editorial brand, from concept and naming to visual design, I explore the importance and ramifications of establishing an evolutionary design system that progresses organically from identity design to process design. My analysis begins by tracing the evolution and transformations of an idea, including its conceptualization, the construction of visual elements, and the maturation of layouts and interface design. By analyzing the colors, typography, spacing, layouts, and component libraries, I underscore the imperative of fostering coherence, consistency, flexibility, adaptability, and scalability. The workflow is relevant for determining how a design system evolves within a project, delineating its organizational design. My take is that the pinnacle of a design system's evolution lies in its embodiment as an individual, collective, and organizational practice. This stage is characterized by repeated engagement with and refinement of its elements, patterns, and behaviors.
